JACQUELINE HANNA
CHEROKEE
I am a registered member of the Cherokee
Nation. My medium is Traditional Southeastern Beadwork the was prominent in the early 1700's to the mid 1800's. I
love working with beads and creating traditional as well as contemporary art.
I use traditional materials: wool, leather,
glass sead beads, etc. I also use traditional methods. All of my pieces are made by hand.
Through my mother,
Crystal Hanna, who is a Traditional Southeastern Potter, I met Martha Berry. I took my first class in the fall of 2001. I
have gone from a casual learner to a full blown enthusiast. I began competing in the spring of 2004. Other influences in my
life are Anna Bell Mitchell and the late Talmadge Davis.
I am an educator in profession and in heart. I love passing down and sharing
knowledge about my heritage and my art. My art makes me feel connected to my past, present, and my future.
